Osmolality Testing For Patch-Clamp Studies

Patch Clamp = A gold standard electrophysical technique for the study of biophysical properties of ion channels. Since the 1970s, patch clamping has been a technique allowing scientists to investigate ionic currents and ion channel behaviour in isolated cells, tissues, or patches of cell membrane within excitable cells. In the experiment, a micropipette will be filled with an electrolyte solution and an electrode will be brought into contact with a membrane of the cell of interest. Another electrode will be placed in the solution surrounding the cell.
